Sir,
I am directed by the Board of Trede to state that they have had under consideration for some time past, in conjunction with the Foreign Office, the position of Kesars H.E.Arthold, a firm formed by the English partners of the Gerran firm of Arnhold, Karberg & Co. in China.
Jessrs Arnhold have been given permission to continue trading in China as a British firm up to the 17th Senterber, and in the meantime they have been given an opportunity of showing to the satisfaction of His Tajesty's Coverment that they have completely severed their connection with the German firm. essrs Arnold
have been in communication with His Lajesty's 'inister at Peking and the Departments here upon the matter, and it is probable that arrangements will shortly be completed which will permit of their definite recognition as a
British firm.
Ir C.H.Arnhold now complains, however, that for some days past his telegraphic corvunications with his
